Gordon Brown to go?

(DM)Exhaustion and unpopularity, it appears, are expediting Gordon Brown’s exit as Labour leader and British Premier. While his government was pushing its weight around Sri Lanka on Wednesday, Gordon Brown suffered his first House of Commons defeat as Prime Minister when 27 of his Labour MPs voted against the Prime Minister. About 75 MPs also abstained from supporting the Prime Minister in a Liberal Democrats’ Wednesday’s motion in support of the families of the elite Nepalese Brigade – Gurkha in the British Army.

Gurkhas who hail from the Gurkha district of Nepal have been identified as a race that has special skills in war and the fate of some 36,000 of this community in Britain remained undecided following a move to allow only those who retired after 1997 to settle in Britain. Full text
