Understanding the Sun God's divine words.

Right To Reply

by Charles.S.Perera

(November 29, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is hard to understand the Sri Lanka Guardian Editorial of the 28 Novembr,2008, on supremo Surya Deva Prabhakaran's "hereos' day" speech. It sounds a nostalgia for an end to terrorism. A recollection of memories of how good it had been before the withdrawal of the CFA, during which period the terrorists had a passport to kill who ever they want, recruit children and women, and train a squadron of black tigers who were prepared to die at the behest of the sun god, and sadly all that has now been deprived to them.

The Guardian –the voice of the people, speaks of the loss in the misty horizon of war, the only ray of hope that dear Prabha gives once a year, for the Tamils living among the chauvinistic anti Tamil "ruthless" Sinhala, whose mindset remains unchanged, through out the non violent and the armed struggle of the Tamils since the Selva-Banda era. (DW)The Sri Lanka Army is now 4km away from Nedunkerni after having captured the strategic village of Othiyamalai. They are also 2kms away from Alampil, the strategic Sea Tiger base. The LTTE is putting up stiff resistance in all areas.

23mm and 30mm Heavy Machine Guns, some of which was captured from the Navy's Dvora FACs years ago are being used extensively to keep the Army down. The high caliber rounds from the HMGs, coupled with the incessant rains are making things a bit difficult for the SLA at the moment. 23mm and 30mm rounds, even when off target, can still cause injury to troops. Desperate Tigers Seek Refuge in Buddhism

by Thomas Johnpulle

(November 29, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The saying ‘devil quoting scriptures’ came true when the LTTE leader in his annual speech mentioned about Buddhist preaching. Although Buddhism teaches non-violence, to the extent I know as a non-Buddhist, it doesn’t require its followers to surrender. On the contrary, it allows its practitioners to invoke their thinking power to apprehend what is right and what is wrong in a given situation. Obviously one cannot preach non-violence to a terror group that has killed hundreds of Buddhist monks, attacked Buddhist shrines from Anuradhapura to Kandy, ethnically cleansed all Buddhists in the north, takes life at will and shows no restraint even to listen to a sermon! May be Lord Buddha can stop the tigers as He stopped the murderer who supposedly made a necklace out of fingers of his victims but it is unlikely that any person can ever handle the tiger leader without violence. Prabakaran's speech leaves Sri Lankan state only two alternatives

by Dayan Jayatilleka

(TC)It ain’t over till it’s over, or as the Americans put it, in a reference to the opera, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. The Mahaveera Day 2008 speech by Velupillai Prabhakaran, one of the world’s most notorious and certainly tubbiest terrorist leaders, demonstrates that there can be no solution to Sri Lanka ’s conflict so long as he remains alive and active, and has not been brought to justice. In our case it ain’t over till the fat laddie swings.

In the first place the man is an outrageously unrepentant liar and assumes that everyone suffers from amnesia. In his speech he says that “It may be noted that during the long history of our struggle, we have not conducted any act of aggression against any member state of the international community”. Let us forget for a moment that Sri Lanka is a member state of the international community, a fact that is proved by his complaint in the same speech, of the military and diplomatic assistance that Sri Lanka has obtained from members of the international community on precisely that basis. The man obviously believes that the assassination by suicide bomber of India’s former Prime Minister and (at the time) leader of the Opposition, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, former chairperson of SAARC, son of legendary former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and grandson of the iconic first Prime Minister of independent India, Shri Nehru, is not “an act of aggression against any member of the international community”! Why is Kollywood supporting Lanka Tamils?

by Pushpa Iyengar

(TC)When Ajith, a rare Tamil film star who eschews politics, said he'd be skipping the Nov 1 fast the industry was organising in support of the Lanka Tamils, he was in for a shock. The London theatre which was to release his latest film, Aegan, was ransacked. Chastised, Ajith lost no time joining other big stars—Rajnikanth, Kamalahaasan, Vikram, Vijay, Surya—at the fast in Chennai on November 1.

The star should have known that Aegan was produced by Ayngaran International, an international film distribution and production company owned by influential London-based Sri Lankan Tamil K. Karunamoorthy. He is a man who is not only well-connected to the Kodambakkam film industry but is also known to be close to top DMK leaders. Full Text

Karunnidhi, and Vaiko in helping terrorists in Sri Lanka, become traitors to India

by Charles.S.Perera

(November 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Karunanidhi, Vaiko and all those who follow them to support a despicable group of terrorists in Sri Lanka under the pretext of providing aid to the Tamil Civilians in Kilinochci, become unpatriotic towards its own motherland- India.

Karunanidhi , Vaiko and their followers, are merely marking time hoping, that the day would come when the Sri Lanka's terrorist Prabhakaran would create the Israel Style, Tamil Eelam State, in Sri Lanka so that they may join up with Prabhakaran to form a larger Tamil Homeland that would accommodate all the Tamils of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, and the Tamil Diaspora.

If that is not the reason, one cannot understand, why this inordinate support for the Sri Lanka Tamils in Kilinochchi, just when the Sri Lanka Government Forces are about the capture Kilinochchi and liberate the Tamil Civilian population who had been kept by the terrorists as a human shield for their own protection. Once Kilinochchi is liberated the Government of Sri Lanka does not want the Karunanidhis, Vaikos, and the rest of their followers , to help the Tamil population in Kilinochchi to find a normal life. Mumbai is Burning:Are These Terrorists Any Different From LTTE Terrorists?

Perhaps this is a tragic reminder to Indian political leaders and bureaucrats that “what goes around comes around.” India is fully responsible for the present tragic situation in Sri Lanka. India trained the LTTE, armed them, and provided logistics to destroy the little island. What was the reason?
by S. Hewage

(November 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It was a very sad day for the people of Mumbai, and the whole of India, for what happened yesterday, and I really hope they feel the pain that many Sri Lankans have endured during the last few decades. While my heart goes out to the victims and their families, I also believe this dastardly act was an abject lesson for Indian politicians and bureaucrats who feel that it is their God-given right “to poke their noses in” on the war against LTTE terrorism by the armed forces of Sri Lanka. They constantly feel obliged to tell the Sri Lankan government leaders how to protect their civilians, and how important is a political solution, etc, etc, thinking that this problem of terrorism is unique to Sri Lanka. Terrorists in Mumbai blast Prabhakaran’s speech and last hopes

“His speech indicates that he is still wary of India. On the one hand he woos them and pledges his friendship and on the other he is rubbing India’s nose in the dust saying that he defeated them.”

by H.L.D. Mahindapala

(November 28, Melbourne, Sri Lanka Guardian) Just when Velupillai Prabhakaran needed the undivided attention of India, particularly Tamil Nadu, on the most important day set apart by him to focus attention exclusively on him, his fellow-terrorists in Mumbai blasted their way into the headlines, shutting him out of the Indian radar screen. In political terms this means that whatever shred of hope there was for Indian intervention to stop the war on terror in Sri Lanka went up in smoke in the flames burning in Mumbai.

“The Deccan Mujahideens”, who claimed responsibility, attacked the financial hub of India, Mumbai, imitating Prabhakaran’s brutal tactics. Faced with the biggest terrorist attack ever, India has better things to attend now than lending a hand to rescue Prabhakaran at this time – a time when India is experiencing what Sri Lanka had endured for decades under Tamil Tiger terrorism. Tamil Tiger Terrorist Leader’s Speech Unplugged in Toronto

By Mahinda Gunasekera

The Tamil Tiger Terrorist front organizations’ well kept secret of the special location where the faithful cadres and the intimidated Diaspora sheep had been herded to listen to the Mass Murderer cum Birthday Boy wanted by Interpol , Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Tiger Supremo and Sun God’s (Surya Thevan) annual gripe and threats against those standing in the way of his mythical Tamil Eelam/Eezham Empire, had somehow leaked to the Canadian authorities prior to the first light of dawn from the Rising Sun’s rays as the world turned to welcome the 27th day of November.

Almost 2000 people had gathered at the Pearson Convention Centre located at 2638 Steeles Avenue East in the City of Brampton in the suburbs of Toronto, to hear the broadcast of the Tiger God’s Thunder over the satellite link on a giant video screen scheduled to be aired at 7.10 a.m. Full Text

Sri Lanka Tamil Tigers swipes hard at United States alleging US favor Sinhalese in East development

Daya Gamage – US National Correspondent Asian Tribune

Washington, DC., 29 November (Asiantribune.com): The LTTE sniper attack that hit the air craft carrying American Ambassador Robert Blake in a Sri Lankan eastern district city last year was accidental according to a statement issued by the LTTE immediately after the incident. But, here is a direct attack on the United States’ development assistance policy toward Sri Lanka by the Tamil Tigers clearly manifested in its web site TamilNet of 28 November using a TNA proxy parliamentarian to convey to the US that her development assistance policy toward Sri Lanka’s east is only benefiting the Sinhalese.

The TamilNet, an LTTE mouthpiece used a catchy headline that clearly conveyed the LTTE condemnation of the United States foreign policy/foreign assistance toward Sri Lanka; US development aims integrating East with Sinhala provinces. Full Text

Tackling terrorism: No time to waste

(Editorial, Times of India, November 28 )This nation is under attack. The scale, intensity and level of orchestration of terror attacks in Mumbai put one thing beyond doubt: India is effectively at war and it has deadly enemies in its midst. Ten places in south Mumbai were struck in quick succession.

As in the case of the demolition of New York's World Trade Center in 2001, Mumbai's iconic monuments such as the Taj Mahal Hotel, the Oberoi Trident and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus have come under attack. The number of people killed in multiple attacks is 101 and counting, which includes foreigners and senior policemen. At least 300 have been injured.

The terrorists who carried out the attacks are well supplied, armed to the teeth and extremely well motivated. The question now is whether the nation can show any serious degree of resolve and coordination in confronting terror. This war can be won, but it will require something from the political class, from security forces and from ordinary people. It's time now to move beyond pointing fingers at one another or resorting to cliches such as 'resilient Mumbai'. It's also time to end the habit of basing one's stand on terrorism on the particular religious affiliation of terrorists, criticising or exonerating them using their religion a point of reference. Mumbai roasts the Mahavir rhetoric

(Daily News)We are conducting this struggle with the unrelenting support of the Tamil people, the world over. Besides, our struggle does not contravene the national interest, geo-political interest or economic interest of any outside country.

The inherent aspirations of our people do not in any way hamper the national interests of any country or people. At the same time, it may be noted that during the long history of our struggle, we have not conducted any act of aggression against any member state of the international community.” - that was Velupillai Prabhakaran addressing the world on the Mahavir (Heroes) Day (27) that just followed his birthday.

This is just on example of the distilled falsehood that runs through the entire speech that can be seen as one of desperate moves to regain the international support that the LTTE once had in many countries of the world, with the wrong impression and belief that it was a liberation movement fighting for the just aspirations of the Tamil people of Sri Lanka. Eliminating terrorism

Only a couple of months ago we published a report that South Asian countries are among the top 10 when it comes to incidents of terrorism. The events in Mumbai prove yet again that South Asia is afflicted by this scourge to a great extent. With the exception of Bhutan, all the other South Asian countries have been affected by terrorism.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan witness frequent terrorist attacks including suicide attacks. In fact, suicide terrorism was perfected by Sri Lanka's LTTE and their methods have been successfully replicated elsewhere in South Asia and the Gulf. It has long been known that terrorists learn from each other and this is one such instance. Full Text

India not to remove ban on LTTE

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) India has no intention of lifting the ban on Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers, official sources said Friday.

The sources were responding to a plea to this effect that Velupillai Prabhakaran, the founder leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), made Thursday evening as part of his annual speech.

The sources, speaking to IANS on the condition of anonymity, said the question of acceding to the request did not arise since the ban, first imposed in 1992, had been extended for another two years only now.

India was the first country to outlaw the LTTE, which is fighting for a separate homeland to be carved out of Sri Lanka's northeast, following the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Since then, several countries have followed suit. Full Text

Tigers could go back to guerrilla war as mini state crumbles

COLOMBO (AFP) – A pledge by Sri Lanka's Tamil rebel leader to fight on despite a military onslaught raised fears Friday of a return to a hit-and-run guerrilla war as his mini-state faced potential collapse.

Separatist chief Velupillai Prabhakaran vowed Thursday the rebels would "continue with our struggle until the alien Sinhala occupation of our land is evicted," referring to Sri Lanka's majority Sinhalese population, and appealed to Tamils abroad for support to shore up his military machine.

Government forces have surrounded Prabhakaran in his political capital of Kilinochchi in the biggest-ever military campaign in the history of Sri Lanka's armed separatist struggle, which dates back to 1972. Full Text

Troops make their way forward despite heavy rains

(Daily News)Incessant rain that lashed the Northern battlefront for four consecutive days has receded to a certain degree giving some sort of relief to Army officers and soldiers on the front. Removing their raincoats, or sometimes a cover made out of polythene sheets, soldiers have started to walk freely on the Pooneryn-Paranthan road which was flooded to the hilt at some places for the past few days.

They were breathing a sigh of relief as they find that sections of the road which were impassable for the past few days, have been cleared for them as the water level is fast receding towards the Jaffna lagoon. It marked the end of a different battle for the troops operating in Pooneryn a week after they captured it from the grip of the LTTE.

In reality the troops fought a battle with nature. The adverse rainy weather condition that came coupled with gusty winds halted all their normal activities as they were hit by one of the ‘worst rainy periods’ they have experienced in the battlefront for the past few days. Full text

Heavy rains hinder march to Kilinochchi

On Wednesday, many sections including the media were in a dilemma as to whether the armed forces captured the Kilinochchi town or not. There were many inquiries from the defence officials in this regard throughout the day, as it was the birthday of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. Although the media expected the government to announce the capture of Kilinochchi on Wednesday, it did not take place .According to ground sources several small teams are in Kilinochchi town, where armed LTTE cadres continue to fire at troops with heavy weapons. With the capture of Pooneryn the army is marching toward Kilinochchi from three directions. Unfortunately however heavy rains have slowed down this foward march .Roads, paddy fields and , jungles were flooded hindering military operations. Another difficulty facing the military are the land mines scattered all over the area, laid by the fleeing Tigers. The flood waters had dislodged these landmines and carried them all over the area. UK Commission lists Lanka among ‘pressure points’ owing to terrorism

(Daily Mirror)A British commission led by the former Liberal Democrat leader, Lord Ashdown, identified 27 countries including Sri Lanka where terror organizations could become a threat to the UK, The Telegraph newspaper reported.

The assessment comes from the IPPR's Commission on National Security for the 21st century which is chaired by Lord Ashdown and Lord Robertson, the former Secretary General of NATO, and includes Lord Guthrie, the former Chief of the Defence Staff and Sir David Omand, the former security and intelligence coordinator in the cabinet office. Not a hero’s speech, only a plea for pardon: Minister

By Sunil Jayasiri

(Daily Mirror)LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s address on the annual Heroes’ Day was viewed by the government not as a hero’s speech but as a mere plea to the international community in the face of the Tigers loosing control of areas hitherto held by them, the defence spokesman said yesterday.

“The LTTE leader has proved in his speech that he is a criminal and that through his speech he is just making a plea for pardon,” government defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukkwella told Daily Mirror when he was asked about the government’s reaction to Prabhakaran’s address.

Minister Rambukwella said that through Prabhakaran’s latest speech he was begging the international community to grant him a pardon for the earlier actions of the LTTE. Full Text

Tamil group targeted

(toronto sun)Some say celebration a Tigers front

At least two local Sri Lankan groups are urging Canadian authorities to stop a Tamil organization from holding events to mark "Heroes Day", alleging they are a front to raise funds for the outlawed Tamil Tigers terrorist group and glorify suicide bombers.

One event was held yesterday at a Danforth Rd. banquet hall and another is slated for Saturday at the downtown Ricoh Centre.

David Poopallapillai, of the Canadian Tamil Congress, defended the events.

"It's remembrance day for those people who have died for the cause over the years," he said yesterday. "These events happen on a regular basis. I don't think there is any fundraising for the Tigers that happen at these events."

The rebels have fought since 1983 to create an independent homeland for ethnic minority Tamils in northern Sri Lanka. More than 700,000 people have been killed in the violence and the government has vowed to crush the rebels and end the war by the end of the year. Full Text

Army enters Kilinochchi as Tigers withdraw suddenly

(Transcurrents)In a sudden and dramatic development the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) withdrew from the heavily fortified northern town of Kilinochchi while soldiers of the Sri Lankan armed forces began moving in cautiously into the town area.

Speculation is rife that the capture of Kilinochchi is likely to be announced officially by President Mahinda Rajapakse in an Island – wide address to the nation in Sinhala and Tamil on the evening of Thursday November 27th.

Though Kilinochchi is virtually encircled by the army at the moment and its fall is imminent, the Government is delaying such announcement so that President Rajapakse derives maximum propaganda mileage by stating so personally on Nov 27th evening. Full Text

Pro LTTE websites confirm success of Air Force raid - Paranthan

(Defence.lk)Pro LTTE websites have confirmed the success of the today's (Nov 27) Air Force raid at the LTTE radio communication centre at Paranthan.

Air Force spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara speaking to defence.lk said that air strikes launched by fighter jets have been extremely successful, as the LTTE itself has confirmed the destruction of its Radio Transmission centre located close to the Paranthan junction.

LTTE has been using its radio transmission channels to spread tribalism among the Tamil youth in Wanni as well as a propaganda arm for the outfit.

Terrorism Somewhere is Terrorism Everywhere

By Sanjeewa Karunaratne

Growing number of evidence suggests terrorist organizations share intelligence, technology, resources and training. Moreover, these organizations fully or partially fund their campaigns through arms, drugs trafficking, smuggling, piracy and other illegal activities. By nature, these activities involve systematic collaborations between groups operating in different geographical regions. These affiliations make terrorism, not localized, but a world-wide problem. Someone’s terrorist today is everybody’s terrorist. This letter analyzes affiliations between terrorist organizations with an emphasis on the LTTE, the deadliest and most innovative terrorist organization in the world.

Tamil Tigers Event Graced by Supporter of Terrorism

The Centre for Social Cohesion Press Release

(November 27, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The fact that the notorious Vaiko (full name: Y Gopalasamy) has been allowed into the UK is bad enough. He is the leader of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhaham (MDMK) - a pro-LTTE (Tamil Tigers) party in Tamil Nadu, India.

But to let him speak tomorrow – as he is intending to – at an event called Heroes’ Day (glorifying the deaths of LTTE cadres) at the London ExCeL Centre is both short-sighted and mistaken of the British Government, who have been taking advice from the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils after originally refusing his visa application. Vaiko is now in London.

The LTTE is a banned terrorist group here in the UK and has been for the last eight years. No-one should be meeting to celebrate the LTTE’s dead cadres, let alone a man who openly glorifies violence and terrorism like Vaiko. Indeed, as the Centre for Social Cohesion has been advocating all week , the ExCeL Centre event should not go ahead at all. Heroes’ Day events in the UK have a history of glorifying terrorism – the highlight of the gathering is a broadcast of the Interpol-wanted LTTE’s leader, Velupillai Prabakharan’s, Heroes’ Day speech from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Government should not agree to another Cease Fire Agreement.

by Charles.S.Perera

(November 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The war against terrorism in Sri Lanka has to go on. At the present stage when the terrorist Prabhakaran is cornered into a live or die situation, a ceasefire would be a lease of life for further terror, brutality, murder by suicide bombs , claymore explosions, and many more deaths of civilians. And the people of Sri Lanka will continue to suffer for many more years to come without knowing what the out come of it would be.

It would certainly be a hard and a sad decision to continue the "war" against terrorism, but un fortunately there is no going back on it now, as far too many soldiers have given their lives to see and end to the terrorism in their bellowed motherland. Therefore, to declare a cease fire now would be to make in vain the death of thousands of those youths from every village in the South of Sri Lanka, who were drawn into the battle against terrorism. The Mahatheetha-Punranna (Mannar-Poornaryn) coast and Anthony Jackson's Aba

“All this suggests that the Mannaram-Punranna region may have had a very lively civilization predating Vijaya, but probably not very different from the form that diffused towards North India as the temperatures moved upwards. This same civilization came back to Sri Lanka with Vijaya.”

by Gam Vaesiya

(November 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The capture of the Mannaram- Poornaryn western coast, driving out the LTTE may seemingly have nothing to do with Anthony Jackson's recent movie which had stirred controversy because of the producer's deviations from historical orthodoxy. In fact the Mannar-Poornaryn coast has been the very theater where the early history of the land may have been played out. Jackson places himself in the time period shrouded in mystery and legend, involving Vijaya's landing near Mahatheetha (Mannar) and the unification of the whole of Sri Lanka under one ruler - Pandukabhaya, who is named "Aba" in the movie. Even this shortened name for Pandukabhaya has been reason enough for controversy, as we shall discuss! Full Text

Nip it in the bud, India!

by Nacholibre

[We have become as clueless as Pakistan. I wanted to write much more, but my mind doesn`t work. As I watch on the TV what is happening in Mumbai, I shiver and sweat at the thought of what is waiting to happen tomorrow and where - B. Raman]

(November 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) I saw in Sri Lanka Guardian an article hurriedly penned by B. Raman, which he has eneded with the above quote. As I read through it, I thought of penning down my own views briefly as an addendum.

Mr. Raman's apprehensions are well understood by people of Sri Lanka who have been menaced by the LTTE terrorism for 30 years. B. Raman claims that he is so agitated and his mind seems not to work as he is witnessing the carnage and possible implications of the terror attack in Mumbai.

LTTE and the Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi

by Dr Geeta Madhavan

"It (India) must stop all military assistance given to Sri Lanka, remove the ban on our movement and recognise our struggle. I like to point out that our movement and our people are true friends of India." – B. Nadesan – LTTE political head in emailed interview to a magazine – Times of India 22 Nov. 2008

(November 27, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Almost everyone remembers the night of 21st May 1991 when the erstwhile Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi and leader of the Congress party was assassinated in a meticulously planned and well co ordinated violent act by a LTTE female suicide bomber as he went to address an election meeting in Sriperumbudur in the outskirts of the city of Madras. It did not matter whether one was a Congress party supporter or not, party affiliations were not relevant; what was pertinent was that a heinous and violent act was perpetrated by a foreign terrorist group on Indian territory. The citizens of India woke up next morning to the fact that a vile and horrible act had been committed against the nation itself. Analysts and experts woke up to the fact that international terrorism had arrived in India. The country had been grappling with militancy within its territory for quite some time and had developed a concerted and long term strategy to deal with it. What it did not expect was that a terrorist organisation would from across the borders act directly to shatter the Indian national unity and add a new dimension to terrorism against India. Full Text

We wish to renew our good relationship with India - LTTE leader

(November 27, Pudukuduirippu, Sri Lanka Guardian) The leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), V Pirapaharan, in his annual Heroes’ Day statement said that the LTTE has never stood in the way of the national, geopolitical, or economic welfare of any other country and added that the profound aspirations of the Tamil people too are not harmful to the welfare of any country or its people. He further said that during the long struggle waged by the LTTE it has never planned to act against any country. He appealed to the countries that have banned the LTTE to remove this ban.

He said that though the LTTE adopted the armed struggle, it has always wished to solve the Tamil national problem through peaceful means. He said, “We have never been against adopting peaceful means and we have never hesitated to take part in peace talks.” Full Text

What will be Prabakaran’s trap today?

No matter what Prabakaran is planning to say today in his speech, he should be in the know that if he does not get the Rajapaksha administration trapped in a ceasefire somehow, his future looks certainly bleak.”

by Nacholibre

(November 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is more than evident that Prabakaran cannot stop the SL military’s forward march in their current, victorious stride. Yet he is desperate to halt the military avalanche one way or the other because, if he does not, tomorrow will probably be the last day he will make his infamous hero’s day speech. Full Text

The Human Rights Watch Syndrome

(peaceinsrilanka)Some people really seem to delight in recounting our problems. Instead of appreciating progress, they bash us over the head with still to be obtained goals. And at considerable length. The situation is never improving in their eyes. We are either already bad or getting a lot worse, and no practical suggestions are offered to help us recover. Rhetorical flourishes are the only things we are given by these characters. They love nothing better than wallowing in a bit of good old misery.

Human Rights Watch demonstrates this syndrome perfectly in its latest press release on the situation in the Eastern Province. To summarize, life is bad and blame lies with the Government.

The Eastern Province isn’t a utopia. There have been a number of killings and abductions in recent days, and these are clearly issues on which law enforcement agencies need to work harder until such crimes are totally wiped out from society. Nobody should have to face threats of violence as they go about their everyday business. Full Text

Sri Lanka awaits Tiger's speech, rain slows assault

By Ranga Sirilal

COLOMBO, Nov. 27 (Reuters) - Torrential rain bogged down Sri Lanka's siege of the Tamil Tigers' headquarters town on Thursday, the day the separatists' chief was due to deliver his yearly rallying cry for an insurgency now under heavy military pressure.

The military since September has been attacking the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's (LTTE) self-declared capital of Kilinochchi, and on Wednesday said its fall was imminent.

That prompted widespread speculation President Mahinda Rajapaksa would declare its capture on Thursday to upstage Tiger leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran's annual Heroes' Day speech. Full Text

Warfare in Sri Lankan style

(By : Gomin DAYASRI)

(Defence.lk)It is incredible, it is unbelievable. It happens only in Sri Lanka.

Where in the world do you knowingly treat your enemy before engaging him in combat? It is happening all the time in Sri Lanka, hardly any one talks about it any more. It is time those interfering meddlesome foreigners and our 'greater than god' human rights angels learn of it. Probably they do know, but pretend not to know. Unfortunately, in the war effort, we have not learnt the skills in blowing our trumpet nor are we pied pipers who have mastered the art of playing that signature tune, which is played to perfection by the LTTE. Though in politics, we surpass many.

Who else feed the enemy troops, maintain a network of roads for their troops to move, provide the asphalt to build roads which they extend to runways to fly light aircrafts, provide hospitals and supply medicine to rehabilitate and rejuvenate the injured terrorists and make them return to the battle ground? We pay for the doctors and nurses ministering the terrorists. The children in LTTE controlled areas are provided with an education for which we pick the bill including the salaries of teachers. The state pays the salaries of public servants to provide for welfare services including child care and maternity and infant mortality services for the families and children of the terrorists. Public works including sanitation and the administration for the North is paid for by those taxed in the South. It has happened under every administration during the 30 year war. Indeed it is an old story that needs to be retold. Full Text
