Now, photographs as fig leaves

Now that the western governments, save a few, have failed to burn Sri Lanka at the stake for war crimes, their propaganda hacks are trying to dupe the world into believing that in the run-up to the final battle in Mullaitivu, over 20,000 civilians perished in the army's artillery fire. They are subjecting Sri Lanka to a media trial on the basis of some post-war aerial pictures and analysis thereof. Interestingly, before the abortive UNHRC special session last week the figure of civilian deaths was given as 6,000. But since then, lo and behold, it has suddenly risen to 20,000. Maybe, the anti-Sri Lanka lobby found the earlier figure not shocking enough to jolt the world into condemning Sri Lanka. Full text
