NO COMPROMISE PRESIDENT SAYS WILL NOT BOW DOWN TO CONDITIONS

(DM)President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday the government would never agree to receive assistance from donor agencies and the international community if they called for conditions that compromised the dignity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

“Unlike the previous UNP regime, we will not bow down to conditions laid down by international donor agencies such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. If we are able to launch mega power generation projects like Norochcholai, Kerawalapitiya and Upper Kotmale with funds from the EPF and ETF, we also have the ability to stand on our own and win the war against poverty and social disparity. That is how we defeated the LTTE one of the most feared terrorist outfits in the world,” President Rajapaksa said. Full text
