UN CHIEF, US, UN AMBASSADOR DISCUSS LANKA

UNITED NATIONS, Friday (Xinhua) – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met the United Nations US Ambassador Susan Rice yesterday, and exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, Mr. Ban's spokesperson Marie Okabe said. She told a news briefing that the issues they discussed included the follow-up on the Secretary-General's visit to Sri Lanka, humanitarian problems in Pakistan and the Security Council deliberations on the draft resolution on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Mr. Ban paid a two-day trip to Sri Lanka that began last Friday for a first-hand look after the conclusion of the island's long drawn-out civil war. He stressed the urgency to address the immediate humanitarian needs and promote national reconciliation. Daily mirror
