Military logic not enough for Sri Lanka

(upiasia)Colombo, Sri Lanka — For the past several weeks, Sri Lanka made media headlines in the world. The unique situation of civilians held as human shields by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the last phase of war with government forces gripped world attention.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s visit to Sri Lanka last weekend is an indication of how important the country has become to the international community. The U.N. Human Rights Council met on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Sri Lanka, where active lobbying by some countries showed their keenness to investigate charges of human rights violations. Full text
