Ki-moon denies bloodbath claim

Demands unimpeded access to IDP camps

(Nation)The government should allow unimpeded and immediate access to IDP camps to the UN and other humanitarian agencies, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said yesterday while adding that although the government is doing its best to help the IDPs, there is a definite lack of resources.

“We like to commend the government about their effort to help these people, but the government does not have adequate resources. There is a gap between what is needed and what we have, that’s why the government needs the assistance of the international community. That is why I am here,” Ki-moon said in Kandy last night prior to his departure from the country. During his visits to IDP camps yesterday morning he interacted with many IDPs. Full text
