HR Council should demand immediate access and accountability: AI

(DM)Amnesty International (AI) welcomed the decision by the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to hold a Special Session on Sri Lanka on Tuesday May 26 adding that for the sake of hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people in Sri Lanka, as well as its own credibility, the Human Rights Council should ensure that the Sri Lankan government takes immediate and concrete steps to address this crisis, beginning with providing immediate, unhindered access to international aid workers and monitors.

“This is also an opportunity to establish an international commission of inquiry to address the long history of human rights violations by the government and abuses by the Tamil Tigers and other para-military groups, “said Sam Zarifi, Amnesty International’s Asia-Pacific director. Full text
