(LB)As a general rule, Sri Lankans do not need new excuses to go out and get drunk. We drink when we are happy. We drink when we are angry. We drink when we are sad. We mourn the dead by drinking ourselves silly. We organise birthday parties for our kids and often turn those into drinking sessions.

New Year is a good time to drink. Christmas is a good time to drink. Poya is a good time to drink provided you get a bottle beforehand. (The blasted government closes the bars on religious holidays). Full text Share on Facebook
