LTTE fighting its last battles says military

(DM)As the military marches into Mullaitivu the pressure on the rebel LTTE has been stepped up, the army said yesterday adding several areas had been brought under military control as battles raged in the remaining LTTE-held areas.

“Several LTTE hideouts in the areas north of Kalamadukulam tank, west and southeast of Udayarkattukulam tank, northwest and east of Puthukudiyirippu in the Mullaitivu district have reportedly fallen into Army hands one after the other late Sunday,” the army said. It also said the 57, 58, 59 Division troops and Task Force II mounted many surprise attacks on the Tigers. “Casualties among Tigers were reportedly on the very high side since they were forced to abandon some of their bunkers leaving their dead and some items behind,” the army said.
