Kilinochchi: the testament to political will and commitment

(DM)You can’t escape the irony surrounding Kilinochchi as the country celebrates the fall of this so-called capital of the LTTE administration.

The LTTE took control of Kilinochchi in 1990 after the Sri Lanka Army withdrew its garrisons subsequent to the departure of the Indian Peace Keeping Force. The army successfully gained control of the town following operations 'Sathjaya' I, II, and III in September 1996. During this Operation the Army established a complex occupying 60 square kms with the surrounding 100 square kms turned into no man's land. Full Text
