INGOs not banned from Lanka

A report that three international NGOs were to be banished from Sri Lanka sent nervous ripples through the aid community last week and prompted fears of a crackdown on foreign organisations.
But Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said there was no truth to the news that Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), FORUT and ZOA would be sent home over poor performance.

He said that other authorities in the government, such as Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, had confirmed that there was no plan to issue marching orders to these organisations. It is learnt, however, that NPA is voluntarily pulling out of Sri Lanka. Full Text
